Taking a Dip in the Blogging Pool

So, after spending too much time running up to and away from the blogging water's edge, I guess I'm ready to get wet. I was lucky enough to receive a Fund For Teachers fellowship for the summer and thought what better way to share the experience than to document the whole shebang on a blog in semi-real time.

On June 27th, I'll be leaving Rochester, NY, for the limestone cliffs of Les Eyzies, France to learn more about the Paleolithic Era, characterized by the coexistence of two human species and the emergence of symbolic art and sophisticated stone technology. Then it's off to the Neander Valley in Germany to learn more about the extinction of one of those human species, homo neanderthalensis. A little heady, isn't it? Even more mentally taxing will be taking what I've learned and collaborating with crafting a gift for my co-teacher: a learning expedition about human evolution!**

Stay tuned...I'll be sharing lots of background information about my summer plans and how learning lives here, there, and everywhere!

**It's official - I'll be a sixth grade teacher next year! I'm thrilled with the opportunity, sad to be leaving my team of eight years and the amazing students we have this year, and puzzled as to how I'll make this trip synch with such a different curriculum. Suggestions?
